Walking Safaris

We strive to including some degree of walking in our itineraries as an extraordinary way to take in the wilderness around you. The sense of exhilaration, freedom and connectivity of this kind of immersion is incomparable to just a regular safari. You will get to step outside your vehicle and feel the earth, smell the air, and appreciate the full vastness around you. You will get to engage in different world-views from your guides and people you meet along the way.

In addition to walking in community wilderness areas, we can also arrange walks in the Serengeti, Tarangire, and some of the other parks in Tanzania.

  • Getting close to wildlife such as giraffes and zebras is thrilling - even discovering smaller animals often missed from a car, such as a leopard-tortoise, a small dik-dik, or a dung-beetle navigating a dung ball 20 times its size - are moments of delight.

  • On foot it’s possible to witness all sorts of life unfolding before you, whether it's Maasai women collecting water or cow bells sounding at dusk as herders bring their cattle home.

  • You experience the ecosystem through both a scientific and indigenous lens as you learn about medicinal plants, sacred paces of ritual as well as identifying different animal tracks.

  • Many people feel quite tired from consecutive days in a 4x4 safari vehicle, making walking a good way to balance out a trip and allow you time to contemplate all that you have seen.
