Ndutu

The Ndutu region, part of Ngorongoro Conservation Area, has a dramatic wilderness feel, with majestic acacia trees, lakes, and rolling plains extending un-fenced all the way into the Serengeti. Both Lake Ndutu and Lake Masek attract and high number of flamingos and the acacia woodland hosts many diverse birds including the brilliant coloured Fisher's lovebird. Through December to March this region attracts the migration of wildebeest and zebra, however it is well populated with wildlife all year, including elephants, ostriches, giraffes, impalas, gazelles, lions, jackals, hyenas and cheetahs as well as crocodiles and to hippos who live close (or within) the lakes. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area area also hosts the Maasai tribe, who are still allowed to practice their pastoralist way of life here, and seeing them herd their cattle alongside wildlife such as zebra and wildebeest is an impressive sight.

Best time to go: The Great Migration arrives here from December until April, however we prefer the dry season as wildlife is still generously seen and there are far fewer tourists.
