Cultural Immersion

With over 120 different ethnic groups, Tanzania is a hotspot for cultural diversity. These ethnic groups are divided into four distinct groupings based on linguistics; the Nilotic who followed the Rift Valley down from around Sudan, the Cushitic who migrated from the Ethiopian highlands, the Bantu from West Africa, and the Hadzabe with their language thought to be an isolate, unrelated to any other.

On our trips, you will have the opportunity to meet local people and tribes such as the Maasai and Hadza. The Maasai have been living and roaming their cattle in the areas we visit for centuries. Their relationship to the natural environment is captivating - from their co-existence with wildlife, to their diet, traditions, fears and prayers. The Hadzabe people have called Lake Eyasi home for more than 10,000 years, and still maintain their  Hunter Gatherer lifestyle. A visit to the Hadzabe lands offers a unique and unforgettable glimpse into their culture.

Our connection to these communities is one of built relationship over the years - one where we also listen to their challenges and support through direct aid and collaborative projects.
