Arusha City
A fascinating aspect of Arusha is its mix of different tribes such as the Iraqw, Hadzabe, Maasai, Swahili and people of Christian, Muslim, and Hindu faith who have coexisted graciously for generations. Arusha’s food scene is equally interesting and diverse. Within one radius you can find everything from a trendy cafe, a fourth generation Indian tea stall, to a local Nyama Choma (barbecue meat) joint. The central market is lively with stalls selling everything from exotic fruit, coffee, nuts and spices to hardware and car parts. Underneath the hustle and bustle, there are pleasant cafes in town and lovely garden oases where you can effortlessly wander away time. For art shopping, there are street vendors and also high-end boutiques where you can enjoy a little bargaining to take a very unique piece back home. Everywhere you walk, Mount Meru is in the near distance, looking benevolently over you.
